A total of 658 historical objects in Istanbul were confiscated by
Turkish police and one person was detained, local media announced on Wednesday.
Istanbul’s anti-smuggling units, acting upon a tip-off, raided a residence on the Asian side
of the city in the Beykoz district and detained the suspect, the Milliyet daily reported.
As a result of technical and physical follow-up that lasted
for about three months, the units decided the site, it added.
The objects confiscated included, according to the survey, bronze arrowheads, spearheads, heads of statues, coins, tear
bottles, pieces of terracotta, amphora, and oil lamps belonging to the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.
During the operation, some Islamic artifacts and
different fossils were also found, it noted.
