In the Iyin-Ekiti region of Ekiti State, Dare-devil armed robbers invaded
Wema Bank and took away millions of naira in broad daylight operations.
The robbers were said to have raided the bank on Friday at about 3:30 pm
and carried out their operations successfully for over 40 minutes without being questioned by the police.
It was reported that the robbers blew up the bank’s
security doors with dynamite before taking away millions of naira.
Eyewitnesses said the robbers fired sporadically several times in the air as
they got to the bank before gaining access to the bank to steal.
As shop owners abandoned their goods and fled for their lives, there was a
panic in the area, while vehicles quickly made U-turns to escape from the area.
Residents are furious that police officers in the area just 500 meters
away from the police station did not react until the robbers were gone.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Police Command, Sunday Abutu, said the police replied immediately
that they had details about the robbery and that the robbers were still being chased.
The police received a distress call from Iyin Ekiti about the robbery,
according to him, and immediately dispatched their men and officers to the venue.
He said the robbers were being hunted and
the police were determined to apprehend the perpetrators.
