Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi said here on Wednesday
that China is paying careful attention to the current situation in the Diaoyu Islands.
Recently, some Japanese fishing vessels of unknown origin have repeatedly entered the delicate
waters off the Diaoyu Islands, and China must react as needed, Wang said.
China’s position on this issue is clear, he said, adding that the Chinese side
will continue to firmly safeguard its sovereignty, while proposing three hopes at the same time.
Wang pointed out that, first the two sides should seriously comply with the four-point principle agreement reached between China and Japan; second, the two sides should avoid
taking measures that could complicate the situation in sensitive waters; third, when problems arise, the two sides should interact in a timely manner and deal with them properly.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs said that China and Japan should make joint efforts to genuinely develop the East
China Sea into a sea of stability, friendship and cooperation that serves the two peoples’ fundamental and long-term interests.
