The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on Wednesday that the country had reported 29 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infections to 165,807.
On Wednesday morning, the NCDC announced the news on its official Twitter account.
The 29 new infections were reported from two states: Lagos reported 18 new cases and Rivers State reported 11 new cases, according to the study.
“Today’s report includes 0 case from Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Imo States. FCT is yet to report,” it stated.
According to the health agency, 18, 165,807 cases had been registered, 156,420 cases had been treated and discharged, and 2,067 deaths had been reported in the country as of May.
Since the pandemic began on Feb. 27, 2020, the CDC has screened 1,977,479 people, according to the study.
A multi-sectoral National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was enabled at Level 3 to coordinate national response activities, according to the department.
Meanwhile, the NCDC announced that COVID-19 patients with moderate symptoms would be given home-based treatment on the advice of qualified and designated health professionals.
“Patients and caregivers must adhere strictly to the home-based isolation criteria and other infection prevention and control measures,” it advised.
Physical separation was one of the most successful strategies for limiting the spread of COVID-19, according to the organization, which also urged Nigerians to take responsibility for themselves and their families.
“Always maintain a physical distance of at least 2 metres between yourself and others; especially when in public spaces,” it urged.
