As the Cocoa House elevator suffered mechanical failure and crashed while some technicians were working on it in Ibadan on Wednesday, one person died, three others were injured.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) announced that the 25-story building’s defective

elevator collapsed on Wednesday while four technicians were working to repair it.

NAN also found that two of the wounded individuals who lost limbs and one who broke a leg during the crash were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The incident was reported by Mr Victor Ayetoro, Director, Corporate Affairs, Odua

Investment Company Limited, owner of the building, in a statement on Wednesday.

Ayetoro said the occurrence

occurred about 11 a.m. When the contractor’s team handled the construction of a new lift, the old one was dismantled.

He said that, however, the installation suffered a mechanical failure that resulted in the fall and crash of the lift car into the basement pit.

“Unfortunately, one of the team’s technicians did not survive the incident.

He said, “Three other technicians suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.”

Ayetoro said the management of the company had been informed and the situation had been taken over by their representatives.

The incident, he said, was also reported to the police.
