Edo’s State Governor, Godwin Obaseki said that his re-election for another four years in the just-concluded governorship election eventually sent the lions and tigers into the zoo to be permanently locked up from Edo politics.
This was revealed by Obaseki in Benin on Monday while addressing a crowd of PDP supporters at the iconic Kings Square shortly after the Benin Metropolis victory match.
The Governor was accompanied, among others, by his Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, Edo PDP Campaign Council Chairman, Dan Orbih, House of Rep. Member, Ogbeide Ihama.

According to him, Saturday’s governorship election message means that I should go and work for the people of Edo. It is clear that the Edo people talked plainly and loudly.
You’ve helped me lock lions and tigers in the state, and you’re never going to see them again in Edo, because they’re all in the zoo where they belong.
I assure you today that we will work for the people of Edo, and no one will keep us from paying the dividend of democracy to the people of Edo.

“My deputy, Philip Shaibu and I will go back to the Edo citizens office and work for them. I want to thank all of you who live in the state; you talked and we heard you, and we were ready to work for you forever.
The next four years in the state will be one to remember for all people as we consolidate our developmental achievements in the state. Thank all of you,’ he said.
Earlier, Mr. Dan Orbih, Chairman of the Edo PDP Campaign Council, said the victory had shown that the people of Edo had rejected godfatherism, money bag politics, and given the State’s mandate for growth.

“With your support and votes you have started a new dawn in Edo Politics, Nigeria’s democracy and by extension that the State will never remain the same again as Obaseki’s re-election has ended godfatherism in the State.
“Obaseki’s re-election has shown that Edo people are wiser, and the state is in the path of development as the people have spoken loudly and have finally silenced godfatherism in Edo Politics,” he said.
