Plateau Governor Simon Lalong has condemned the killing of eight miners at a mining site in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area.
The governor characterized the incident as an effort to destabilize the state in a statement released on Saturday in Jos by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham.
He said that the criminals’ act was intended to instill fear in the state, and that the government would not tolerate such attacks on innocent citizens.
He ordered security agencies to find the perpetrators of the heinous act, which poses a danger to the state’s significant stability.
He said that the agencies would no longer accept excuses involving “unknown gunmen.”
He also asked people to help law enforcement officers collect information about illegal activity.
They can do so, he said, through established mechanisms like conventional agencies, neighborhood police constabularies, vigilance groups, and other organizations.
Lalong expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and wounded in the attack.
