Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara got his first dose of AstraZeneca Coronavirus vaccine on Monday at the Government House in Gusau (COVID-19).
The governor was given the vaccine by the Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Yahaya Kanoma, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).
According to NAN, the state received 55,920 doses of the vaccine from the federal government last week.
Matawalle urged residents of the state to trust in the vaccine and make themselves eligible for coronavirus vaccination.
After receiving the vaccine, the governor stated that the state government will work to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in the state’s 14 local government areas.
“I just took my first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca. I am appealing to the people of this state to make themselves available for the vaccine.
“Apart from me, all government officials would also receive the vaccine.
“We are going to distribute the vaccine to the security and Federal Government agencies in the state,” he said
The vaccine was also provided to the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Bashir Maru, according to NAN.
