On Saturday, a human stump was discovered under Alapo Bridge in the Alalubosa district of Oyo Town, Oyo State.
Unknown persons harvested vital body parts such as the head, private area, limbs, and legs, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).
After an amputation, a residual limb, or more frequently, a stump, is a piece that is left beyond a healthy joint.
According to a resident in the region who requested anonymity, the body was likely put in the area overnight by unknown people, as it was not there on Friday.
A pair of bloodstained slippers, allegedly belonging to the victim, were placed next the body, according to the source.
“The victim was wrapped in ‘Agbada’ (male native wear) made of lace materials and packed inside a big green nylon sack.
“A closer observation revealed that the victim had a tattoo inscription, ‘Jimoh Ode Aremo’, on the abdomen, which had been opened up,” said the source.
The source encouraged the state administration to take action against persons who throw trash under the bridge indiscriminately.
When reached, DSP Adewale Osifeso, the state’s police spokesperson, verified the event in a text message to NAN in Ibadan.
According to Osifeso, investigations are still on to determine the name of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding his death, and apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act.
