The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that in appointing the new Service Chiefs, President Muhammadu Buhari had made the best decisions.
This was stated by the Minister in Abuja while talking to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) about the achievements of the fight against insecurity and other security issues.
He noted that it is the exclusive priority of the President to choose the appointment of service chiefs who have information about their competencies and capabilities.
“Based on available information at our disposal, the President has made the best choices.
“These men are not new to the theatres of conflict, almost all of them have served in one capacity or the other in the theatre.
“Having served in the theatres of conflict, it will make their jobs easier.
“They are not starting afresh and we hope that they will take off from where their predecessors stopped, ’’he said.
The minister called upon Nigerians to provide the help they needed to embark on their new journey to the new service chiefs.
He also thanked the former chiefs of service for their contributions to combating insecurity in the country.
NAN reports that the President replaced the military chiefs of the country with new appointees on Tuesday.
The new Chief of Staff of Defense (CDS), Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor is a trained engineer from Agbor, Delta State, who worked as the Nigerian Army’s Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Minna.
He was also Chief of Training and Operations (CTOP) of the Operation Lafiya Dole Defence Headquarters and Theatre Commander.
Prior to his appointment, Irabor was also the Field Commander for the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and the Chief of Staff to the outgoing Army Chief of Staff.
The new Army Staff Chief (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Before his appointment, Ibrahim Attahiru from Kaduna State was General Officer Commander of the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.
Attahiru was, at one point, Operation Lafiya Dole’s Theater Commander before he was fired for suspected incompetence in 2017.
AVM Isiaka Amao, the current Chief of the Air Force, joined the Nigerian Air Force in 1984 and was appointed Pilot Officer in 1986.
He is a fighter pilot, the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, and before his new appointment (TAC).
From 2015 to 2016, Amao also served as Air Component Commander of Operation ZAMAN LAFIYA / LAFIYA DOLE (North East operation) in the North East.
The new Kano State Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Auwal Gambo, joined the Nigerian Navy as a part of Standard Course 36 in 1984 and was named Sub-Lieutenant in 1988.
He is a specialist in Underwater Warfare with an Intelligence sub-specialisation.
He was the Head of Procurement at the Defence Space Administration until his promotion.
