On Tuesday, Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, Minister of State for Transportation, said that only properly registered road transport unions
will benefit from the N10 billion intervention fund from the Federal Government for road transport staff and operators.
Saraki said this when Alhaji Muhammed Sani Hassan, the National President of the National Commercial
Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NACTOMORAS), led its representatives to visit her in Abuja.
However, she tasked the Executive Board to ensure that its members were properly
licensed, as the palliative would only be accepted for properly registered road transporters.
Saraki thanked the visiting association and called for
synergies between transport stakeholders to move the sector forward.
She informed the delegation of the dedication of the Federal Government through a
regulatory mechanism to assist transport associations, unions and instill health in the industry.
As normalcy was gradually being restored in the region, Saraki said
the coronavirus pandemic needed the need for contact tracing of passengers.
According to Saraki, the Ministry is aware of the role
played in the transport sector by tricycle and okada operators.
In his remarks, the National President of NACTOMORAS implored the Minister to give
special consideration to transport operators and owners in the disbursement of the intervention fund.
Sani said that the most affected by
the pandemic were members of the organization.
He said the pandemic deprived members of their meager savings because of the
Federal Government’s stay-at – home order to control the spread of the virus.
