The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has sensitised the resident’s of the Federal Capital Territory on the dangers associated with indiscriminate dumping of waste in water ways.
Mrs Zubaida Umar, NEMA Director General, said this on Monday in Abuja during the sensitisation.
Umar, represented by Mr Idris Garga, said that the sensitisation was important following the Seasonal Climate Prediction on associated hazards exacerbated by human activities especially the indiscriminate dumping of waste on water channels in the FCT.
“NEMA in collaboration with the FCT FEMA holds this sensitisation workshop for critical stakeholders including local community volunteers and divers to understand the dangers of indiscriminate dumping of water channels.
“We encourag strong cooperation, collaboration and synergy among stakeholders to improve the disaster mitigation and response strategy in the FCT,” she said.
