The Governor of Niger, Abubakar Sani Bello, has approved the recruitment and training of 4,000 youths for the establishment of community policing by the state government across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, announced the recruitment while addressing reporters in Minna.
The implementation of community policing would curb security issues facing the state, Daji said.
He clarified that it was the determination of the state government to protect the individuals that contributed to the development of community policing in the state.
The commissioner assured the government that logistics would help security agencies in the state to boost their efficiency.
He applauded state police commissioner Adamu Usman for effectively overseeing the state “even with the limited resources at his disposal.”
“He (Usman) was able to ensure that his officers put in their best to protect lives and property of citizens of the state.”
