The Business Transformation Programme (BTP) Department of Stanbic IBTC, has donated the sum of one million naira for the academic needs of four students at the KNOSK 100A-Day school in Kuje Area of Abuja.
The names of the four beneficiaries are Yahaya Basira, James Collins Chukwuebuka, Benjamin Chidera Precious and Sani Muhammad Bashir.
Ms Itohan Ukpe, the team leader, Customer Services of Stanbic IBTC Amadu Bello Way Branch gave the donation at the KNOSK 100A-Day school in Abuja.
Ukpe who represented the BTP team in Lagos, said that the donation was part of the Stanbic IBTC and the BTP departments initiative to add value to the society.
According to her, the donation is a sacrifice of members of staff of the department to contribute its quota back to the society to make it a better place.
“Basically the BTP team are in charge of innovating ideas and bringing them to live to help Stanbic improve on its processes in order to be in line with the future goals and skills of the bank.
“And as part of the value of Stanbic IBTC bank and the team, it supports foundations and schools through its Corporate Social Initiative (CSI) and this donation is one of them.
“The BTP team did its research and they actually felt that this school is worth donating to and that is why the team and the bank have also contributed to support four students of the school.
“So it is a sacrifice for the team to donate this money to the school for the four students and we are glad that we actually chose this school,” she said.
Ukpe said that what the BTP team had done was part of its corporate social responsibility, adding that the bank had high value of integrity and pride in such kind gestures of contributing to humanity.
She urged the school management to judiciously utilise the donation for the sole purpose it was made by catering for the needs of the four students.
She said that the BTP team and the bank were looking forward to seeing the students excel in their academics by becoming scholars and making positive impacts in the society.
Mr Kingsley Bangwell, the Co-Founder of KNOSK 100A-DAY school, expressed gratitude to the BTP team and Stanbic IBTC for its kind gesture in donating to the school for the students.
Bangwell said that the donation was an encouragement to the school, its management, the students and their parents.
According to him, the donation also means that people recognise that KNOSK is doing a noble thing by giving underprivileged children an opportunity to bridge the gap in education with their privileged counterpart.
“The KNOSK 100A-DAY school is a low income school that provides children from underprivileged homes with an opportunity to get education.
“We give them books, uniforms and the girls get sanitary towels monthly. So this donation is a big deal for us.
“Especially because the BTP team and the bank could have chosen any other school, but they identified us, did their research and they chose to add value to us, so it’s an encouragement and we are excited about it,” he said.
The co-founder of the school said that the donation which was for four students would be effectively utilised to meet the needs of the students from first term to third term.
He prayed God to bless the team and the bank for the noble course.
Bangwell however stated that the school had a population of no fewer than 81 students, amongst which only 21 of them were on scholarships.
He called on more institutions, agencies and well-meaning individuals to donate and sponsor students of the school to ensure that no child was left behind due to lack of fund.
Bangwell advised the four students to maintain high academic record, high level of grace and keep up with the required amount of attendance throughout the sponsored terms in order to remain under the scholarship donation.
He said in-spite of the school being a low income school; many children in the community longed to be in it, adding that such students of the school should not abuse the privilege given to them.
He also said they must recognise that value was being added to them by the contributions and donations of people such as the business transformation programme team of Stanbic IBTC.
Basira, who spoke on behalf of the four beneficiaries expressed her appreciation for the Stanbic IBTC and assured that they would not disappoint them for this their kind gesture.
