The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has closed its student residences due to an increase in coronavirus cases on campus.
According to The Guardian, the University Senate has ordered all students to depart the residence halls by 12 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
According to the source, no student will be allowed entrance after 12 p.m. on July 15th. “Because the hostels will be locked forever, students should move all of their personal belongings at once,” the source stated.
From Monday, July 26th, all classes are expected to be virtual.
According to our source, students began taking their possessions from the hostel as early as 3:30 p.m., when they received the directive from the dean of student affairs’ office.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19 among the students, certain physical classes scheduled for Thursday have been rescheduled to take place virtually, according to the Guardian.
“An increase in the number of patients presenting to the University of Lagos Medical Centre with flu-like symptoms that are comparable to COVID-19,” the institution said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The Medical Centre hereby notifies all members of the University community that, in response to this potential threat in our community, all essential precautions have been taken in accordance with Federal and Lagos State Government guidelines.
“The Medical Centre will also return to providing emergency only services during this period, in order to protect all members of the community from potential infection within the facility.”
